Range Safety Officer (RS0)
Club shooting activities are supported by a cadre of trained and experienced RSOs. If you would like to become a RSO, please go to www.qshooting.com and click on Training. As of 15 December 2010, New QSC Range Safety Officer candidates need to complete three (3) requirements:
(1) Marine Corps Level One Range Safety Course (This test score is valid for three years)
(2) Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico OIC/RSO Course (This test score is valid for 3 years).
(3) New QSC RSOs are required to attend a 5 hour QSC-specific Range Safety Orientation course conducted in the WTBn Classroom, and work with (mentor with) a current RSO for a minimum of one range opening, depending upon the range, before opening ranges on their own.
RSOs that have not opened a range in some time MAY also be asked to update their knowledge base by attending the orientation and/or mentoring session(s) before opening ranges for QSC. Links to training are available below to assist you in meeting your requirements.
USMC - Level One Range Safety Course: The Marine Corps Level One Range Safety Course is available for all Marines on the MarineNet website. The course title is “Range Safety.” Personnel without MarineNet access may schedule to take the Marine Corps Level One Range Safety Course test at the Range Management Branch (RMB) through the RSS at (703) 784 5502. A study guide is available for the Marine Corps Level One Range Safety Course at RMB. Directions are available from the RMB.
Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico OIC/RSO Course: The WTBn RSO training materials (training material, RSO 2010 update) are available for your review on-line. If you have any questions about the information or procedures, please contact the Operations Officer and he or she will forward your request to the QSC Chief RSO.
